This is a stupid question but why can't we predict weather weeks in advance? We have computers that can simulate tides, wind currents, and earth's orbit around the sun. Barometers and thermometers all over the world. Decades of historical data & patterns.

Bc those are all stable predictable cycles. We can predict some things through weather cycles and patterns (like hurricane and tornado seasons), but overall the atmosphere is extremely chaotic. Small changes that may even be undetectable can butterfly effect itself into a massive weather pattern. Our weekly forecasts are barely accurate

The NWS has a climate prediction center that does 3/4 week outlooks. It gives temperature and precipitation outlooks. It’s hard to predict weather that far out for local weather forecasts because of all the variables that go into play.
