Not being woke is not the same as being anti woke. Political views are an extension of lived experience. I grew up in Africa, I don’t see the need for affirmative action, it doesn’t make sense to me. I can and have come up with a variety of well reasoned arguments as to why affirmative action isn’t a good idea. But those who disagree disagree a lot more loudly and disrespectfully than I had. Have ur opinion, but be a decent person about it.
actually, pretty much any argument against affirmative action in the united states can pretty quickly be refuted and dismissed with data and material reality. just because something “doesn’t make sense” to you doesn’t mean it’s incorrect. which was exactly my original point. don’t assume that everyone knows as little as you do.
That is incorrect. Tell me. Why admit based on race instead of income or location? You want to give blacks and Latinos a leg up, right? But what about the blacks and Latinos who are rich? They will always be more attractive than those who aren’t, meaning they will rack up a majority of the college acceptances. This doesn’t even help. If you think about it, black people with fewer resources clump together in location. And fewer resources is tied to lower income.
ahhh the classic “wealthy minority” argument against affirmative action. basically, the statistical prevalence of wealthy minorities applying to selective colleges is so low as to be basically irrelevant to the argument. also, the entire intent of affirmative action is to counter implicit racial bias in the admissions process, which absolutely still exists. your solution is literally throwing the baby out with the bath water.
What kind of an expression is that? Also, it’s not irrelevant. Go to any well regarded school and the vast majority of minority students there are quite wealthy. I’m not saying that affirmative action didn’t help minorities in general, but I’m saying that chosing to admit by race is not logical because comparing the entire spectrum of black people is ridiculous The people in their immediate vicinity and the people that make as much money as them are those who you compare to.
