OP is 100% right. In saying that though we went from a system where a average single income could support a family (buy a home, car, feed the family etc) to a system that insists on dual or extraordinary income to match that standard of living. However, women and more broadly the family unit lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-40 hours that previously went to making the home, raising and supporting the family unit. I learned about it in a GE class but very interesting

women were discriminated against in credit applications until the 70s. many women simply were not able to have their own bank accounts without their husband's permission. ... so yes. feminism did put a stop to a LOT of financial abuse.
