Dear men, the issue was never approaching. It was harassing, creeping, and ignoring rejection cues or straight denial. If you can’t tell the difference between these you’re part of the problem

men who act like they can never approach women again without being afraid of getting accused really are telling on themselves. is it scary to put yourself out there? ofc! but if you treat the woman you’re approaching like a person and are respectful, there’s really nothing to worry about

Eh I don’t blame guys. Many false accusations go around. But I certainly wish it wasn’t the case. I’ve never been hit on at a bar by a cute gentleman. I’ve only ever had two men do it and you could tell their pure desperation instead of cute interactions and flirting. We’ll find our gentleman one day… right?

Problem is that women now use that against men even if they’re not doing any of that. Women can be terrible people too

You’ll notice “if you cannot tell the difference you are part of the problem” was not a gendered statement. It is very telling you demanded it be made one by making it that way yourself

Yes women can be terrible people and they will weaponize anything against men because they hate men. Literally scroll through confessions every week and you’ll see the regular “ I hate men” posts. According to them misandry doesn’t exist but misogyny is very real. Your comment will keep getting downvoted because they want to control the narrative. The issue of women never getting approached will become more prevalent and mail order brides will be the future.

It is arbitrary, but to me it’s anything that is obviously unwanted/disrespects usual social boundaries but hasn’t crossed the threshold into harassment. Cold approach? Fine! Cold approaching someone clearly involved in a group of people and deep in conversation with them by trying to interrupt that conversation and demand attention? Creepy. Using your body to corner them into the convo? Creepy. Starting with a weird explicit statement? Creepy, but not quite harassment

It’s vague because it’s subjective, we’ve already established that. If you’re here to argue for the sake of arguing we can do that but don’t act like you’re genuinely having a good faith conversation by demanding an objective fact out of an opinion. It’s situational. there’s no one solid definition that will encompass every creepy situation. Just generally, anything that crosses a social line without crossing a legal one is creepy

Anonymous 20h

yeah bc social boundaries differ across cultures/relationships/environments. the social boundaries of a concert are very different than what you’d find in an office environment. do you really think having the definition would be more useful than getting an example?

yeah it’s subjective in that what’s ‘normal’ behavior changes from place to place, but basic decency and respect doesn’t. cat calling someone is never okay regardless of where you are. interrupting someone who’s in a convo/busy with something to flirt with them also isn’t okay. ig a better way to put it would be to just treat people with respect but im ngl i thought that was already assumed lol

It’s not wrong to feel creeped out by how someone is treating me, and choose to reject them for that reason, actually. You’re not entitled to me thinking highly of you just because you didn’t break the law when you spoke to me

upvote 10 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous 19h

not really. im saying its normal to scream and yell when you’re excited during a concert and that’s ‘normal’, but just bc that’s socially acceptable there doesn’t mean it’s universally okay. treating people with respect (for the millionth time - not interrupting, not taking no for an answer, etc) is never okay. as long as men don’t behave like that they’re fine

If you can't read the room and persist in an uncomfortable behavior while the surrounding people are clearly made uncomfortable by it then you will be labeled a weirdo. That applies to all social interaction, not just approaching women 🤷‍♀️ Sorry no one can explain to you how you can read the room exactly to a science each time over a yikyak comment. It's a life skill.

yeah? that shouldn’t be shocking to you. that’s part of being respectful. if i’m talking to someone and they’re giving one word answers/not engaging, the respectful thing to do is to stop talking to them bc obviously they don’t want a convo with me

I am AuDHD. So is my fiancé. Also, you have to take responsibility for your disabilities. If you can’t understand social cues, YOU have to come up with a plan to insure you’re not harming others because of that. Like avoiding sexual comments or explicitly requesting consent. Your gotcha won’t work here fam

Not that I tally my friends of minority or other statuses, but 3 foreign who live abroad and always have, 4 immigrants, and countless who are from different cultures than me. and before you go there, I’m a supporter of moral relativity, but I know people from places where smacking a [strangers] woman’s ass to flirt is appropriate. Doesn’t make it ok here

Exactly. It was weird because you didn’t know each other that well yet. Which is why some behaviors that may be fine in some contexts can be creepy in other contexts.
