This ICE stuff is escalating to a degree where a comparison to 1930s Germany is not hyperbole

Because it’s being used in blue states to create division, chaos, and cause a reaction - to punish political opponents, warn others, and to eventually justify martial law or further paramilitary intimidation before and during the midterm elections. The matter of fact is this sort of force only shows the US has become a lawless place, where the courts are slow and the current forces are free to push the envelope to crush any opposition, with the excuse of pursuing illegals. Sad state of affairs.

If they were only arresting and detaining legal residents, you’d have a semblance of a point. But they’re detaining US citizens and folks with legal work authorization. America did not vote for this. They wanted cheaper eggs and got fascism.

>legal work authorization Like Kilmar Abrego Garcia? Because he had a deportation order. Also it wouldn’t matter if they were *only* rounding up illegal residents, liberals wouldn’t like it because it’s what Trump ran on and you know it.

No. Like the door dash guy who brought my neighbor food three days ago and still hasn’t been released. If people who voted for Trump wanted this, we are in much worse shape as a country than I thought.

Any citizen arrested on suspicion of being a legal immigrant should be a concern. There’s due process, not arrest first and ask questions later.

I don’t agree with them doing it either. Unlike you, we don’t follow our politicians like cult leaders. We question them and want them to do better. We don’t blindly defend our politicians and lick their boots like you magas do

Most ICE detainees are deported without additional due process because they’ve already received due process. They already have a final deportation order. There isn’t some hack to get infinite rounds in court for this.

No, I misread it. Not on suspicion of being a legal immigrant. That would be dumb. I’m not sure why you aren’t more concerned about them detaining people first and then sorting it out later. That’s not what America is about

America isn’t about open borders and letting people roam freely and do whatever. There’s a process. People need to follow it. It’s finally getting enforced and it’s a big damn mess because the people who were in charge prior to this did a poor job of it, unlike many other countries that left leaning people put on pedestals. The rate at which people are picked up who are supposed to be here is exceedingly low and it’s unfortunate when it happens, but good riddance to the rest.

And by the way, arrest first and due process later is the normal operating procedure for pretty much everything in this country, citizen or not, whether it’s related to immigration or not.

upvote 10 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 4w

Nah. There needs to be due process. Would you like to be arrested and detained for days? Unable to communicate with your family. And if you’re a female you might even be sexually assaulted while you’re there. All the while you’re here legally. That’s not an American value

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 4w

You’re right. To clarify, I mean people are being detained on suspicion of being here illegally, and that’s concerning because legal immigrants and US citizens are being detained. That’s just dressed up racial profiling

They won’t detain you if you have identification with you and you aren’t resisting or being a dumbass trying to impede them. Then they most definitely will detain you even if you are a citizen because you’re interfering with federal law enforcement.

upvote 9 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #8 4w

Let’s say that’s true. Now we’re expected to carry our work authorization papers or passports around with us everywhere to avoid being detained? That doesn’t sound like the land of the free

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 4w

No. You’re expected to have valid ID on you. Your passport would definitely suffice. A real-ID should as well however there are problems with that system as well. Also usually they are looking for someone in particular when they are out and about. They will detain others if they find them though. Having a social security number is enough to prove you are a citizen usually as well I’m pretty sure.

So I’m out for a run. I should carry my passport and social security card?

upvote 0 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 4w

No. You should know your social security number. You should have your wallet with a drivers license or government issued ID though. Also usually police will ask your name and a few other questions as well which will help them look up who you se even if you don’t have an ID on you.

upvote 1 downvote

Also, there are many instances where they are not looking for someone in particular. They’ve been trolling parking lots and city streets asking for proof of identification from people who look like immigrants.

Why do I have to carry my wallet with me when I’m out for a run?? Why do police have to “look me up” while I’m walking my dog?

For instance last year I got stopped at a street party during Mardi Gras. I was asked my name and a few other questions, they then asked to see my ID to confirm I wasn’t underage. I showed them it and I was let on my way.

It was an example of a law enforcement officer trying to figure out who someone they are talking to is. I am aware it’s not the same thing. ICE generally isn’t just running around detaining people at random though. They are targeting specific individuals to detain. Going around at random is not an effective way of finding someone here illegally believe me

upvote 6 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #8 4w

And yet that’s exactly what they’re doing — approaching random people who look like immigrants.

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 4w

Even if they are, they are legally allowed to do that. I’m not saying that’s morally right because it isn’t. Regardless they are just enforcing existing immigration laws that previous administration’s refused to. Had they never stopped enforcing the existing immigration laws this massive surge would never have been needed

upvote 5 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 4w

Not necessarily if they have probable cause. Also asking if someone is a US citizen is something any defense contractor will ask on a job application or interview. The probable cause thing gives law enforcement of all kinds a lot of latitude. I’m not even going to argue that it hasn’t been abused by many law enforcement agencies over the decades though because it has.

as someone who knows about the immigration system. even if ur a legal resident. lets say ur on a work visa, you don’t have a ssn, but you get another kind of number that represents u as a tax payer. the dmv can’t give these people real-id because they don’t have a ssn but a itin. they’re still legal.
