Ur not being downvoted for speaking the truth, ur being downvoted for being a moron, it’s discriminatory and based off of claims yea maybe somewhat true but hold no value, you may not believe in god and that’s a boundary yo7 want for a partner sure that’s fine, but ur still an idiot, and I’m not even Christian, I’m Jewish
Yes you literally have too, and it’s not pick and choose, you have to give meaning to things because it won’t make sense bc language norms where different at creation and different at translation and other translation and other translation, it’s also known that King James Bible is known for changing words. It’s all what you believe and I know most Christians would probably agree, it’s abt just being a good person.
i did. still, nothing i said was untrue or baseless, therefore you calling me an idiot holds no weight. why am i dumb? did i say something that doesnt make sense? did i lie? did i say something without proof? no, no, and no. so i ask, do you have a REAL reason why you oppose what im saying without any personal attacks?
I can justify yes, direct translation it holds merit. But that isn’t what happens in churches or modern Christianity, it is what is perceived due to the translations and changing of words throughout the bibles history, therefore, I disagree, because those verses aren’t values held by modern Christians.
i understand that. but can u see how that can sound like cherry picking? EVERY christian can have their OWN interpretation of the bible, every denomination, every church, etc etc etc... do u see how that can be difficult to pin down? so instead of referring to millions of anecdotes, i looked directly at the source material that their faith is based on, which we can both refer to. based off of the source material alone, im sure we can agree that men & women are not equal.
Yes but u can then argue that u are basing your belief on direct translation it when you even said your self is loosely based in modern Christianity and interpretation. Cherry picking isn’t the right word, when in fact you can’t make the assumption that because something is identical when something else is based in it.
i see the point ur making. yes, most christians BASE their faith in the bible without following every verse line by line IDENTICALLY. my point being, is that its a gamble. theres so much variety. someone may only follow 2 verses, someone may follow just the new testament, or just certain books- but the common denominator is that they all follow the SAME BOOK. yes, that is a generalization of millions of people. but it is not baseless. because their book LITERALLY says these things.
therefore i dont believe its unreasonable for a feminist or egalitarian person to be wary of christians (or any religion for that matter), because their foundational texts EXPLICITLY STATE sexist beliefs MULTIPLE TIMES. do you see what i mean? furthermore, nonreligious people are statistically more likely to be feminists than christians (unsurprisingly)
I see what your saying, but that would mean your whole argument is flawed, The fact that this is a generalisation of modern Christians or religious people is based off of a direct translation (of which you took the direct linguistic meaning of) which you agreed to say is baseless in their beliefs or at least most beliefs for all Christians. When it isn’t true, not all Christians believe in the “anti feminist” direct teachings of the Bible, it is some. - better said, you say all when we both
i feel like dating is inherently discriminatory- we all select for people who share our values and click with us the most, among other things. and im sure many christians also wouldnt want to date atheists- but i wouldnt call that discriminatory, moreso just knowing what does and doesnt work for you
i dont like men who uphold anti feminist values- and MANY of those men have OVERLAP with religion, which i proved. it just isnt smart (statistically) to for a women with feminist values to get with a man whose foundation of his faith, aka the bible, is in opposition to feminism but are there outliers? yes. are there cherry pickers? yes.
The statistic said “more likely” it doesn’t say anything about percentages or actually give me evidence to prove correlation. It could be 1% more it could be that they interviewed 3 ppl. Check your sources. From the snippet I was shown it could’ve been taken from rural parts of Tennessee (old boys state) Trust me, I’m not tryna be like that but that seems to be an inherent problem with most ppl and sources they find online. 😭
Exactly the point I’m making it’s cherry picking and discriminatory based off of something that isn’t necessary true for everyone in a category. The point I’m making is you can’t justify hatred for another person for a non exclusive category they fall in, when the problem isn’t the category, it’s the subjects on belief. One can be Christian and not hate women one can be Christian and hate women it’s not exclusive. Many also does not mean more than average, it just means the ppl you’ve been near.
ur kinda nitpicking now. heres the source if you want to verify for yourself. and if you google "are religious people less likely to be feminists?" your answer is going to be yes basically every single time. there are PLENTY of other sources that back up my claim.... would you really argue that religious people are MORE likely to be feminists? if so, id like to see ur evidence 😭 https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2025/02/26/religion-and-views-on-gender-parenting-and-workforce-participation/
How so, this is a complete a valid argument, questioning a source? Any lawyer any teacher any attorney would agree that is a valid thing to ask. Also regardless, still doesn’t justify saying all people in a category believe the same, when each interpretation is individualistic and different, as you’ve agreed. Shit you might be right some ppl are more likely to be anti feminists but category isn’t the determiner, it’s like saying women are more likely to be left handed, shit there might be many
sure my claim isnt true in every case, i cant make a qualitative statement about EVERY christian. but i can back up my argument with evidence- i can refer to various verses in the bible, i can refer to various studies that show that christians & religious people are more likely to be traditional and not feminists, and i can point to various christians, churches, and politicians that uphold such beliefs what evidence do you have to support your claim?
You may be able to use them sure, but that doesn’t mean they are valid and sound when pertaining to the argument whatsoever. Also politicians ? Really ? U mean actual fucking supervillains ? Ppl who will say anything for a vote? Can’t ship those ppl in to Christianity, those kid diddlers may say they’re Christian but they’re not. Same with mega-churches those are cash grabs. Either way ts is like apples and oranges dude 😭
They twist the words of god to support their own beliefs and out dated traditions, not only that they leave a bad face on Christianity. Everyone can see that. There is no excuse for them. The majority of their support comes from those older and the senile who reflect those views because that’s what they were raised with. Don’t ship politics with religion that’s not fair especially when in the us there is supposed to a separation of church and state.
when politics is becoming more and more shaped by religious views, i have to ask the question- what are the values that unite the millions of voters? what do they have in common? why are billions of dollars being sent to israel? why are they so involved in our politics... and it boils down to christianity. it's not every christian, but it's always A christian. do you see my perspective?
Don’t need to, I’m being logically sound. The problem is with the argument itself. Also what about Christians who are women, are they not feminists just because they’re Christian? Regardless, of if they are or aren’t more likely to not be feminists your still mixing up sufficient and necessary assumptions and furthermore, the argument alone would be is it fair to assume all Christians and all religious ppl are anti-feminists? The answer regardless is no.
I’m too tired to argue as of now, but I will say we are arguing in two distinctly different spheres, you’re worried abt the context I’m worried about the argument itself. If you wanna say that it’s a personal preference to stay away from religious ppl that’s fine but u can’t assume that they are all antifemenists.
christianity and feminism directly oppose one another unless you cherry pick verses. cherry picking what fits your world view and discarding the rest isnt intellectually sound. can you do it? sure. someone can stick their head in the sand, but it doesnt change the fact that theres a tornado outside
I’ll say this now tho, we are involved in Israel bc it’s a stronghold in the Middle East for oil, how’d it become a stronghold, ww2 decision to declare Israel as a Jewish state for rothchilds, why are they involved in our politics? Investors. Why are we fighting their battle? It’s much safer to fight Palestinians who don’t have access to nuclear weapons for oil than the Russians with nuclear weapons. It’s unfortunately a necessary evil. We don’t like Israel, Netanyahu is alr a declared war crimi
you don't know how to debate then buddy. i made a claim then backed it with evidence. you then went against my claim but you gave no evidence for hours. you're supposed to give a rebuttal with your own evidence..... and now you're too tired. yawn. if you dont know the bible then dont debate it. ive read the bible, quran, torah, talmud, etc etc. because knowledge is important. i domt talk out of my ass unless i have knowledge to back it up. do you concede that ur unequipped to debate this?
I definitely know how to debate you just don’t know how to argue, also didn’t we agree on being cordial, I’ve given my response to everything you’ve said you have yet to acknowledge it, I told you I would happily debate with fair warning I’m not Christian, I told you I was going to go off what I know and what makes sense logically, there is no concede but there is a clear difference in opinion, if you want to be stubborn and tell me Christians are more likely to be whatever sure go ahead but ur
i think im being cordial. i didnt make any personal attacks like u did when u called me an idiot. im responding to u saying, and i quote "I DONT KNOW THE BIBLE" im agreeing with you- you dont know it. because if you did you would know that it isnt possible to substantiate ur point
dude you can interpret it all you want to. doesnt change the fact that these things are said verbatim in the bible. in conclusion, i think that because the source material states these things, id rather not engage with someone who follows it. im not a fan of apologetics. perhaps that does make me discriminatory, but oh well. im ok with that. we're all entitled to our opinions. i encourage you to read up on the bible and expand your knowledge. you may be surprised about what you find
