I decided to take a break from drinking, marijuana and hookups. Is it insensitive for me to refer to my break as like one week sober or one month sober as a joke? I’ve been saying it as a joke to friends but now I’m worried I’m being ignorant

I mean that’s not a joke it sounds like you are genuinely getting sober unless I’m confused?

Or even if ur just taking a break I guess ur still temporarily sober

I am genuinely going sober but it’s not rlly because I was suffering from addiction or anything, it’s more of just a personal choice and it’s just temporary

A phrase may help you here on your journey “An alcoholic is anyone whose life gets better when they’re not drinking”. You can swap in any of your vices there Someone is abusing weed when their life gets better when they stop Someone is using sex unhealthily when their life gets better when they stop Someone is an addict when their life gets better when they stop
