I have too much empathy for my own good I think. I end up understanding why they are the way they are and start forgetting red flags until it’s too late

Yeah that’s dangerous. Empathy is important; I’m not saying people who don’t have it aren’t human, but I would argue it’s probably the most human experience. Just make sure you keep yourself safe and put your needs first

same dilemma here 😓 i have to remind myself that explanations are not excuses. like yes i know why and UNDERSTAND why they acted that way…but that doesn’t mean they should’ve…right?

my best advise would be to remember how you felt. i know it’s hard when you erase your feelings and replace them with theirs, but i find writing my feelings down in the moment i’m feeling them helps solidify them. usually if someone did something wrong, especially to you, and you feel bad about it, even understanding their POV doesn’t justify or excuse their actions, it just explains them and gives them context. having something to look back on and remind you how you felt might ground you
