Side story, there are a lot of underage people on here and i usually make it a point to be one of the first things that I ask because if you’re under age, you’re getting blocked

I mean a 1-2 year age difference isn’t large at all. I personally decided against the 16/18 age gap, but it’s not that weird. You don’t magically become more mature once you reach 18, you just happened to pass the arbitrary line where we are given adulthood privileges.

It’s not the age gap, it’s the ages. Sure, an 18 yr/o isn’t as mature as a 25yr/o but it’s still wrong far an 18 yr/o to date a 16/17 yr/o because they’re a minor…

But why is it a problem that they’re a minor? A 17 year old and 18 year old (or 16-18) don’t have stark contrast in life experiences, have near-identical cognitive development, and don’t have any kind of power dynamic. I get that it can still just not feel right to you, as it did to me, but I don’t think it’s decidedly inappropriate for those relationships to happen.

I do find it easier to talk in terms of education levels though (assuming the people involved are typical ages for their grade level). If we’re saying the 16 year old is a high school sophomore and you’re a college freshman, then I would personally find that inappropriate, but I think a hs junior and college freshman isn’t unquestionably bad if you knew each other in high school (though I personally wouldn’t do it), and a hs senior and college freshman is completely normal.
