Working at a mostly white camp as a Black woman really showed me how much kids repeat what they hear at home. A 3-year-old asking why my skin is “dirty” or talking about deportation is wild. That’s just sad.

Personally, I don’t care about race. I just feel like a 3-year-old shouldn’t even know or be saying things like that.

The dirty thing seems more like an innocence thing to me

She said it more than once, but it wasn’t that deep. She’s a child at the end of the day, and I think some kids are just curious when someone’s skin looks different from theirs. I didn’t take offense to it, honestly.
