not really a choice when your own body, mind, and health is fighting against you. if someone who has an alcohol addiction just stops they could literally die. so technically yeah they can make the choice to stop but it’s not black and white. people who do heroin have excruciating pain, that it’s unbearable. plus usually due to their environment and lack of money to get help, there is only one way to make the pain stop and the mind is working against what’s right to stop the pain

being involved in addiction is not you actively choosing like it’s just something you want to do. it’s a mental and physical struggle. not a simple yes i’ll continue on with my addiction or no i’m going to stop now.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s not extremely difficult everthing mentally is kinda fighting against you on it. I personally am just lucky the people in my life fought against it even though it was very hard
