I get really confused when people end a relation/friendship over politics. I understand the mismatch of beliefs, but usually voting isn’t black & white. For ex, voting for Tr*mp doesn’t mean you support EVERYTHING he does. (I’m a woman & voted Kamala ‘24)

I’m personally affected by Trump’s policies, so if someone voted him then they’re either supportive to or apathetic to what he’s doing to my group.

honestly nothing has to be as black and white like everyone makes it

I just don’t like associating myself with people who think certain people should have less rights but I’ll hear their side and let them talk

If everyone had common sense like you, the world would be a much better place. Truly the most sane thing I seen someone say in a long time and I for one, appreciate that :)

i'm gonna be honest, i think less of people who voted for him and i prob won't be good friends w those people (at least as long as they support that decision), but i don't think everyone is evil incarnate. i couldnt date someone who votes for him but i could be civil and have a low level friendship in theory

I feel like voting red, sure, however the issue with trump is that he has done so much harm. To me, voting for him feels extremely selfish and I’d rather not have people in my life like that if I can avoid it

even if you don’t support everything he does getting him in office caused those things to happen 🤷‍♀️ as someone who cares about social justice and the environment it’s really hard to maintain relationships with people who vote for repealing environmental protections and rights from vulnerable groups. i understand that we see different media and if they saw what i did they probably wouldn’t support him as much, but it’s not just “beliefs” it’s active dismantling of my rights and the future of earth

I’m guessing the confusion is that you’re not considering that they did ask why they voted for so and so and didn’t like the response

I used to think this way and had friends who are Hispanic who wanted to vote for Trump but they didn’t want people to think of them a certain way so they voted for JFK jr. wasted vote imo but I can’t think of them the same way bc they are truly very ignorant and we just don’t stand the same way. I haven’t talked to them or seen them in years but I’ve been friends with them for a very long time so it’s kinda just hard for me to cut them off

counterpoint: it absolutely means you support everything he does

Thank you very much! Politics is entirely a game of the lesser of two evils (USUALLY). I think the general public should just acknowledge that.

It’s likely that’s a large majority of people considering he’s been president twice now. I understand, but it’s also extremely difficult if you’re a blue dot in a red state like myself.

maybe in the general public but not in my personal life thankfully <3 if it matters enough to you you’ll put in the effort to make it happen even if you’re in a red state

Most of my chosen family leans more left or middle, but lots of my biological family is far right (or acts like it). I guess I just feel your personal beliefs should ultimately prevail.

someone being able to justify voting for a rapist says a lot about their personal opinions tbh

yeah :/ which is why i’m fine ending relationships over politics, bc it’s never just politics. it says a lot about someone’s character and who they’re willing to support and what they’re willing to justify

I think that’s valid, but I also think it takes time and is worth it to get to know someone’s character too. Instead of just cutting things off because of one thing. I know different people have different opinions on things like that though.

Yes I work with a guy who voted for trump twice and I heardddd all about his policies even tho I voted for Kamala. We can still have discussions until racism or sexism comes out then it’s done

it’s actually not a large majority of people, as not everyone voted. it’s between a quarter and a third, many of them being older generations
