I think the flag has evolved into a southern pride symbol from what it was. A prof was explaining how objects and symbols evolve in their meanings and such- I was only paying slight attention, he had other examples but I do t remember them. Not saying it’s right or wrong just what he tried explaining. I shoulda paid more attention in that class and others 🤣

The confederacy was fighting to keep African Americans in the country, Lincoln wanted to send them to Liberia (voluntarily, not forced repatriation). When Johnson became president, he obviously was sympathetic to the south so he wanted them to remain to be sharecroppers. Had Lincoln remained president for four or even eight more years, there could be a lot less African Americans in the country now had Lincoln’s plan been successful… and that would make Nick Fuentes happy.

The Virginia museum of history and culture in Richmond has some good displays about this. Basically that “southern pride” was a deliberate effort by the Daughters of the Confederacy to glorify their racist bs

Me when I generalize the entire southern population and say they’d burn a northern farm down. You can dislike them for their stance on slavery which is 100% true, they should’ve lost and I’m glad they did. But not all southerners felt this way. And before you whine I’m sympathizing I’m not, I’m a history major. I’m telling you the truth

Yeah, and also southern schools are among the least educated still and it’s created a bit of a vacuum in upholding problematic systemic racial beliefs. My foster dad was born in Ohio and then moved to Mississippi in the third grade until hs. He still has a fondness and the accent but he wouldn’t go back to live there bc of the tension. It’s a beautiful scenic area but unfortunately systemically neglected even still today for its issues in race discrimination /economic development/etc.

the non natives that move to hawaii tend to be that kind of people. along with the tourists. anyone with any sense knows to not visit or move to hawaii if you’re not native or don’t have native family
