
when i have negative thought patterns it can be good to recognize them as impulses (thoughts i can’t control) and try to examine WHY i might have that desire, and why that impulse would be wrong to follow through on (it would actually be bad for my health, Im perfectly fine as I am, my expectations of what my body should look like have been warped by unhealthy beauty standards) and choose to consciously argue against those impulses in your head
you can’t control the thoughts that pop into your head but you can control how your conscious thought processes react to them, and whether you choose to act on them. you’ll have lots of impulses in life that aren’t helpful and identifying them and explaining to yourself in your head why they aren’t helpful can make it a lot easier to shrug them off and not act on them, and regain some control of your thoughts
