A close friend of mine is going to jail on Monday for viewing/distributing CSAM. He’s facing 10 years but can get out on 3 on “good behavior.” My feelings are conflicted as I feel really bad for him but at the same time it’s justice well deserved.

I get that you’re upset that he’s a friend, but I personally feel that if I knew that they were into that type of stuff or distributing it then that would automatically make me hate them.

I’m not particularly upset that he’s a friend, I just feel bad for him. I understand your take tho , i don’t plan on stopping being his friend either. I guess that feels conflicting too

This is in no way a means of shaming you but why feel bad? Like I think we’d want people who watch that type of stuff locked away? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to as I am pretty biased but I’m just curious

It’s not like the American prison system is actually involved in rehabilitation. I don’t believe in just locking up / killing people off just because of their bad deeds. The biggest issue I have is that a lot of these folks just get released and eventually slip back into those behaviors, specifically cuz they wasted 10 years undergoing more trauma in prison rather than facing and unlearning their problems . Prison is just slapping a bandaid on the bigger issue imo
