I really encourage you to look at all the help she attempted to get, the medications she was on, how her psychiatrist kept just putting her on more medications instead of listening to her symptoms, research what postpartum psychosis is, and how the medical system repetitively ignores women when they seek help, it’s a tragedy no matter what way you look at the situation and we have to fix the root issue

I can agree it’s bad both ways but I can’t excuse what that woman did. At the very least she’s needs to be put in a mental asylum. But I agree that the medical professionals who worked with her should be investigated and if need be prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law.

i don’t think anyone is asking you to excuse what she did, three children dying is horrific, my point is that severe psychosis can make someone incapable of understanding reality or the wrongfulness of their actions, which is exactly why the insanity defense exists, if she meets that standard, psychiatric hospitalization rather than prison isn’t ‘letting her off’, its recognizing that punishment doesn’t make sense for someone who wasn’t legally responsible for their actions

I agree about the mental professionals not be shit. Cause they definitely did nothing to help her. However, I think she still needs to go to jail. Cause killing three kids is too horrific to not get jail time regardless of her mental state (like it’s already bad when you hear about parents killing one kid, but three?!?). And while she’s in jail she can get some mental help.

i think that’s where we fundamentally disagree, the fact that three children died makes the outcome more horrific, but it doesn’t make her more legally culpable if she genuinely lacked the capacity to understand or control her actions, punishment should be based on culpability, not just how disturbing the outcome was, if she needs to be confined for treatment or public safety, that’s different from saying she deserves prison regardless of her mental state

that’s the prosecution’s interpretation of the errands, not an established fact that she consciously sent him away for the purpose of killing them, the entire point of this trial is determining her mental state and criminal responsibility, so you can’t just assume the prosecution’s theory is true and use it to prove she was responsible
