I’ve used the app for about a decade now and I can tell you it’s not only ineffective as a language learning tool, it also stopped caring about users a long time ago. Instead of working on updating how they teach a language to make it more effective like apps such as Mango, they’ve changed the interface to add paywalls to it while also replacing human jobs with AI

It’s only gotten worse over the years. It was fun at first when the social media team leaned into the joke that the Duo was too intense about lessons, but after their tiktok got bigger for being unhinged and mocking, they made the app get unhinged and mocking to match the social media content. It used to be only on April Fools, but now they make it a daily part of the app
