your first sentence is a bit of a sloppy oversimplified misinterpretation of how socialist politics operate, but I will agree as a leftist myself that *some* self-identified socialists, leftists, communists etc do have a real problem with hypocrisy in terms of not living up to their own ideological standards
everybody’s still growing though, no one is really a perfect reflection of their own belief system. I know I sure have blind spots of my own. but the existence of people who need to work on themselves doesn’t discredit the broader movement “share what you have” *is* socialist-aligned sentiment though! or maybe that’s what you were saying too and I misinterpreted you…
rich politicians are scummy in general, when I say “at least somewhat of a socialist” I’m moreso talking about believing in and acting on socialist principles—a good example is the thing you were saying about Jesus’ teachings, genuinely! that really is a socialist mindset—within your own life / community, as opposed to which politicians you support
I mean I do think socialist politicians tend to be the least evil we can get in the US, but above all I’m primarily focused on an anarchocommunist-leaning approach where your “politics” = how you apply your ideology to the way you move through the world, de-emphasizing the electoral aspect to some extent
what you’re saying is definitely true of politicians, hard agree, but it’s definitely Not true of socialist activists who aren’t running for office or working the upper rungs of a literal business. the vast majority of leftist activism involves zero access to fame or wealth—it’s stuff like ground-level organizing around meeting local community needs, or disseminating educational info, or participating in protests to either draw attention to a social issue or apply pressure on people in power
I can’t stress enough that “socialist politicians” and “leftists / socialists” are two vastly different categories. no disrespect intended, but I didn’t actually realize there were people who aren’t aware of that distinction. it’s like how “democrat politician” is a different category from “democrats, in general”, where the latter just refers to like… everyday people you see around town
