Designer baby stuff is in the news, its just palm reading. It was on CBS this morning and I was floored at how many ethics questions we are skipping as a commonwealth. (Scientist)

“designer babies” is such a creepy euphemism. unfortunately not really a surprise that pro-eugenics moves are being made unchecked and at an accelerating rate though—mismanagement (& increasing abandonment) of covid response set the stage for it, and there’s already a historical pattern of eugenicist movements spiking in reaction to viral pandemics

I wonder if we will ever get to a point in society where ethics out pace action. It’s difficult though, sometimes you need to have the thing in front of you so you can truly understand its capabilities in order to work out the ethics. It may be a chicken and egg scenario

It’s called a think tank. Otherwise the beginning people “trying” (profiting) will write moralless rules we have to try and control as a collective

I don’t know, I’ve been pretty disappointed with the output of think tanks as of late, at least in America. May be different elsewhere, but I find only a few think tanks that aren’t clearly heavily politically and capitalistically motivated. Education institutions tend to be a better barometer over here. Some standouts though, like the Kaiser Institute.
