It’s an exaggerated joke. I’m not advocating for hitting people because they criticized my cooking. You can think the joke is bad without pretending I just announced my intentions to commit domestic abuse.

You did announce your intentions to commit domestic abuse. That is exactly what it looks like at first glance. There’s no sarcasm button for text. This message goes over a lot better in person, with vocal inflections to show a joking or non serious tone.

If a man or woman made this joke to you after they cooked for you. Would you take it as a joke in that moment? “I’m gonna slap the shit out of you if this tastes bad”

I can understand why you’d take it differently without tone but that still doesn’t mean I was announcing an actual intention to hurt someone. It was an obviously exaggerated joke about my cooking. You’re free to think it’s a bad joke but jumping from “this joke could be interpreted literally” to “this person is threatening domestic violence” is a pretty massive leap. Context matters and nothing else in the post suggests I was seriously threatening anyone. You have yourself a good night though!
