its weird when people argue against things they haven’t researched, and decide that their position isn’t the wrong one, especially when they’re making generalizations about a whole demographic affecting topic and fail to do basic research

Research doesn’t really mean anything unless the details of the study line up AND the source is trustworthy. Look at smoking reports in the 60s. Even the most prestigious studies can straight up lie

There was also that study in the early 2010s saying that standing results in an earlier death. If you actually look at the way that study was conducted you can tell that the outcome is correlation not causation

yes some research can be biased and should be critically reviewed as to its sources. However it absolutely does mean something if there is scientific consensus on a topic and someone is arguing against it without having read any papers or done any research themselves. Scientific consensus exists because people don’t trust other sources so they do research to try and disprove existing literature. When they fail, that strengthens the original claim.

But there’s almost always consensus going both ways. And if neither side is willing to admit they are wrong, it means neither side is willing to accurately interpret the data in terms of accuracy and relevance, so in internet arguments it almost never matters
