it’s genuinely hard to debate them because they use the Bible as their “truth” and they think anything that doesn’t align with it is false, like dinosaurs and evolution

i think the bible is really hard to understand, no reason to underestimate its truth just bc we tend to miss understand

trust me i’ve studied out the Bible and i’m no longer a believer, if you want to have a debate we can but don’t assume i don’t know what i’m talking about and that i’m misunderstanding* anything

So that’s a cool part about misunderstanding is that you are MISunderstanding not necessarily that you don’t want to understand, and I’m not talking about your understanding at all. I’m talking about theirs. They can misunderstand.

the bible is an interesting story book with lots of good life lessons. but it isnt the ultimate form of truth, and science should never be discarded if it doesnt align with the bible

I agree science should not be disregarded!! But science and faith are simply looking at different things. It doesn’t mean that they are against one another.

i just don’t understand your claim to say it has “truth” at all, the common Christian understanding is that it’s the ultimate authority so if you’re not a Christian i don’t understand what you’re defending

I don’t want to debate about the Bible. As a believer, I know the Bible was used against Jesus by the opposed one. I just don’t go as far as to judge someone that is misunderstanding something that was translated one and on time again.

I am. But we don’t believe the Bible has ultimate authority. We believe Father has ultimate authority.

there are many instances of the bible being contrary to proven science is against science noah's ark is my favorite example. its literally impossible for 2 animals of every insect, mammal, bird, etc etc etc. to coordinate and make it onto the ark, live on it for 400+ days, not kill each other, have enough food and water to live.... it just doesnt make sense unless you throw science out of the window

I’m defending the person. We don’t understand everything in that Bible scholars that study this for years don’t understand everything. It’s really hard to pick at its diction and grasp the meaning.

I mean, can you say that it’s sO convenient that scientist don’t understand everything there is to the universe? No. I respect your way of thinking I think questioning is really important.

you don’t have to debate me, but Matthew literally ends with Jesus commissioning his followers to spread the Gospel, i run into this a lot where Christians defend their faith until i ask them to explain why they believe it, and then they don’t want to discuss it, it’s genuinely confusing to me, if i believed the people around me could face eternal consequences for not believing, i’d feel an enormous urgency to explain why i thought Christianity was true

That’s a really good point. I’m going to bring up Paul writing ( I don’t think that he has ultimate perfection. He was not Jesus. ) and the best way I can explain this…is that it’s not productive to keep nagging at someone, this will NOT bring them closer. I hate when I see Christian’s place judgment on a non-believer because Father doesn’t ask that from us

I think we all have a very strong stories for why we believe and simply exposing that to someone can be a lot of intimacy. You’re allowing them a chance to hurt you. We are called to be good representation so that you ask yourself why is this person so peaceful? Why are they always donating? Why are they filled with love? Why are they so good and hopefully reflect him in a way that lets you question about him.

hun i used to be a disciple, i went to church 3 times a week, was in Bible studies almost daily, did my daily devotional every single morning, spread my faith around my campus, i did everything i could and corrected myself according to scripture, one day my faith was just gone, no matter what i did it wouldn’t come back, no matter how much i begged and prayed, now i live my life as morally as possible even without the Bible, all the traits you listed aren’t only for Christians

You’re absolutely right. Nor would he limit being good and full of love to only Christians!! But representing him in our individual BEST way is what’s most productive. I pray all the time, i yap to him every second. And I feel you (I wish for a sec that I could give you my brain so u’d realize how normal this is) there are some days in which I just can’t feel him. My pastor explained that when u feel his silence, it’s because he is working on something.

I’m sure it’s been years and I may not have the correct words for you but now when I just can’ttt feel it, I try to still praise him because I know he’s up to something, and usually he very much is

it’s odd to me that you’re saying you wish you could give me your brain so i could “realize how normal it is” like i didn’t just explain how i used to be a devout Christian, i know what it’s like to be you, i know exactly why you think and believe what you do, but it does seem like you’re talking past me because my lived experience doesn’t match your Jeremiah 29:13

I actually tried to stay away from the church (I listen to my pastor through podcast) It personally doesn’t help me. I start to become more concerned with looking Christian than being. It’s very easy to confuse my thoughts, with a humans interpretation, with the Father‘s response to prayer and the opposed one trying to accuse me so I give up. But it was very confusing then. Now, I continue praying so that his whispers never get lost with my loud thoughts.

I was raised by two women and went through multiple different kinds of churches to find truth. I’m beyond sorry you didn’t feel heard. I was trying to relate to you. I have felt his silence and his “absence” too.

you’re completely misunderstanding me and doing the thing where Christians blame my loss of faith as a personal failure because im just “mistaking” silence for absence, faith isn’t a choice, if i told you to stop believing in God for one minute you couldn’t, if you told me to believe in God for one minute i couldn’t, so don’t make my loss of faith a personal failure, you’re not going to convert any agnostic or atheist person like that if that’s your goal

I meant to explain that feeling…his silence when u pray and confusing it with absence was normal. The truth is , I don’t know you.

I said that before I seen your current reply. I’m sorry you’re right, I don’t know how much you prayed or if what you were experiencing was confusion. I don’t know you. I’m just trying to relate to you and sharing something that helped me. But thank you for letting me know. Next time I talk with someone else I will know to separate myself from those accusations.

By the simple fact that me accusing you of being “confused” bothered (rightfully so), lets me know it was meaningful to you. I know we might not change our ways of thinking today, but I will be praying for you. I don’t know where you stand now but if you don’t believe then just now I’ll be wishing the best for you.
