I just got a raise so big at work that I can actually afford a decent 1 bed in manhattan and not only can I afford it, but I could afford it with 1 check out if the 2 I get monthly. I don't wanna spend that much on rent but still

To afford a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan and pay for it with just one check you need to make about 200 K a year lol

No you don't lol how much do you think a 1 bed costs?

$200k a year is like $10k a month after tax. That would mean $5k on one check. You think you need $5k for a 1 bedroom apartment?

In Manhattan?? $5k

According to multiple websites the avg rent for a 1 bedroom in Manhattan is between $4600-$5200. You don’t currently live in Manhattan do you?

I'm literally telling you I live in manhattan and you're basing your assessment on a range that is the price for apartments in luxury buildings. Yeah, the average rent includes high rise buildings in Chelsea that are $11k a month. That does not mean that 1br apartments generally cost $5k

It’s not my assessment lol I don’t live there. I just googled it 🤷🏻‍♀️ So if you currently live in Manhattan, not one of the other NYC Burroughs what does a one bedroom apartment cost?

Saying "you don't currently live in manhattan do you?" after giving your rent stats from google 100% reads like you calling me a liar but whatever I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Apartments in manhattan vary vastly in cost depending on several factors. For normal apartments you can pretty easily find a 1bd for less than $3500 in several neighborhoods, even midtown and below. You will even have options at $3000 depending on time of year. It's a matter of location, amenities, timing, etc

It's definitely easier to find a really big studio and you could even get a studio in some of the luxury buildings at those price ranges, but 1 beds do exist in that range

You never claimed to live in Manhattan so no I wasn’t calling you a liar. You said you could finally afford a one bedroom there with your raise, but that doesn’t mean you currently live there.

Okay. Well. I live here. And even if I didn't, I think I could still plausibly have a view of what the rent is in a neighborhood 20-30 mins away. Like I know generally which neighborhoods in Brooklyn and queens are expensive vs cheaper, why couldn't someone from the Bronx know what the rent is like in manhattan

Of course you would have an idea of what rent is on the island, even if you lived in one of the burrows but how am I supposed to know where you live? I made that comment before you said that you lived in New York City.

You also literally said "if you currently live in manhattan, not one of the other NYC boroughs (you misspelled) what does a 1 bed room apartment cost". As though I had to live in manhattan and not in one of the other boroughs to know. And then in your most recent comment you contradicted that directly

I didn’t contradict anything lol and you’re welcome to take up any misspellings with Apple and whoever programmed their voice to text 😉 For a guy in finance that currently lives in Manhattan, you should spend a lot of free time arguing nonsense don’t you? LOL

I'm not a guy. And yes I do, with people who try to find a problem with everything for no reason

And you did contradict. Suggesting I needed to live in manhattan, not one of the other boroughs, to know how much an apt in manhattan costs then turning around to say "of course you would have an idea of what rent is, even if you lived in one of the [other] boroughs (misspelled again)". That is quite literally the opposite sentiment

I'm honestly kinda shocked that you read all these comments in the voice of a man and especially that you're doubling down on that but alright. Anyways, I will surely enjoy my $30k raise :)
