Nintendo started in 1889 as a playing card company in Japan. Sony started much later in 1946 as an electronics shop after World War II.

Nintendo released its first home console, the Color TV-Game, in 1977, followed by the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1983. Sony entered the video game market later in 1994 with the original PlayStation, which actually began as a joint project with Nintendo before their partnership collapsed.

No wait I did get that wrong nintendo was first, and I already know that nintendo started as a card company. Regardless, a failed partnership isn’t the same as an offshoot. What you said is still wrong.
