How do scientists know if an animal is actually really extinct. What if it’s hiding like did they actually look everywhere?

They don’t know for 100% certain but they’re pretty close to being sure

Bc they look in the place they’re supposed to habitat in and if they’re not there it’s rare they would be somewhere else that’s not meant for them to be

To add to this, theres also functional extinction where the known population is so small and repopulation too slow that it is very improbable they will recover without some hidden enclave that isnt known. This was the case for a long time with the eastern white rhino
