i don't understand how people are so unbothered about tech layoffs. whenever i vent/ doom, people keep acting like i'm being unreasonable (especially as a new grad with <1 yr of experience)

Literally, like I’m sorry but I’m genuinely scared for my future bc at this rate it doesn’t matter how good of a programmer I am, to most companies AI with a little bit of oversight will do much more work faster than I ever could, it’s demoralizing

Tech layoffs are a problem, but right now it’s mostly affecting the middle managers and entry level programers. Programer positions will come back but it’s gonna be a bastardized version of software development where you’re just QA for the AI, and not writing your own code. Middle managers are gonna be stuck eating a pay cut in this economy and it’s gonna widen the gaps between the doers and decision makers.

Remember no “future” is stable, it’s always changing and you need to pivot with the times to not get thrown off. Learn how to program using Codex. Come up with a project plan out the project documents, create a repo, and reprompt it a half billion times until it works the way you want. The more you do to round off your skill set the better a hire you’ll look like when you do find a job. Also remember some hellish industries like banking are very averse to change, they may still hire you to code.
