You said it best “yet“. Calculators had their limitations, so do humans, but AGI will have none. Sooner or later it will happen, and it’s all thanks to nitwits like you. Soon enough, anyone will be able to do what you do. What will you be? Just some Shmo who spent too much time on the computer. This is why I got into the trades, we will be the last to be obsolete.

AGI happening is a good thing. But also, LLMs are not getting us any closer to AGI lmao. LLMs are just big statistical programs. Not consciousness. Anyway, these advancements are ultimately good for humanity and the proletariat. You should direct your anger towards billionaires and everyone else making us have to work for a living to begin with when we live in a time of artificial scarcity.

I love coding, but I don't have time for it any more. I love spending time with my cats, friends, and loved ones more, and I enjoy going to the gym and gaming more. The little free time I still have left after college is not worth spending 20h a week coding when I also have a job coding 40h a week. It was different in college, when I just went to class for a few hours a day and had fuck all to do after that, and I could even code with my friends around while they did homework.

They're good enough to write all the code I'll ever need written again. And they're getting better. AI hate is virtue signaling. Save it for the things that deserve it, like billionaires and corporations. The people choosing to destroy the environment and our lives for the sake of profit. You can have AI without doing that. China is putting data centers in the ocean. Our government lets companies put them in our backyards.

Data centers in the ocean is a terrible idea. Have you forgotten about global warming. Last thing we need is massive data centers getting cooled off by our oceans. I do agree that AI is very capable and you can get by with it writing your code for you. I feel though that people believe that there is no longer a need to even practice coding anymore and furthermore people are becoming over reliant on it. It’s not perfect but is getting better. Also another thing to mention is the impact on the consumer market for computers. They are getting more and more expensive, i.e., ram, gpus, etc. And, as I consumer, I feel that AI really hasn’t justified the price increases. I hate the idea that these big corps, want us to move to cloud gaming, it’s never gonna be better than running software (other than heavy computing operations such as ai) locally.
