Can someone explain to me why it’s good/bad, up front it seems good for those of us struggling in the current market but also I feel like this can be exploited regardless

Complaining about “other people” taking jobs is either stemming from misplaced resentment on not being qualified or you’re just believing bs you see without any evidence to support it.

Yeah no. Companies already had to pay more for h1bs given the legal stuff, so they already had an incentive to prefer Americans (or just offshore). This discourages smart people from coming to the US which is bad in the long term.

Unfortunately it was walked back on. In the signing they said it’d be $100,000 per year and apply to visa renewals but it’s a one time payment and only applies to new H1Bs. Plus there’s exceptions to it.

Short term thinking will ruin the country eventually. And there’s only 85k h1bs anyway, not a massive number in the grand scheme of things.

Plus it’s better to have immigrants working jobs in the us then have companies move those jobs overseas.
