sometimes I think about if computing evolved in China rather than the US and we would have to program in Mandarin or use Mandarin keywords

As someone who is learning Mandarin it would probably be very limited mandarin characters.

One of the reasons that it didn’t is specifically because of how unfriendly mandarin is (as a language) to typing. In fact, it took many years AFTER English typewriters were around for useable mandarin typewriters to be made (due to the sheer number of possible characters) — these were operated using code sheets where the operator would enter a 4 number index of each character. This made the barrier to entry for using typewriters much higher for mandarin as compared to English.

it would evolve to smtg like pinyin too, just easier and makes more sense to even chinese people

Definitely this it would be pinyin OR Zhuyin assuming that English is less important worldwide due to China inventing code instead.
