Take advantage of connections through your school. They work much better than online applications if you’re looking for a job

Prioritize connections and real world experience. Don’t be afraid to take coding adjacent jobs. Junior year CS is awful, keep your head down and just fucking crush that shit. Have a portfolio of projects/school assignments you can show off. When you graduate just keep applying and don’t be afraid to take coding adjacent jobs, I’ve worked in marketing for the majority of my career!

if u can’t find a job don’t think going to grad school will fix that problem (only do this for robotics or ml). treat school as secondary if your primary goal is swe. leetcode everyday, and build projects u understand. apply for every and all hackathons at ur university and notable universities (t10s cs + ivies) and get travel reimbursement (i.e. princeton hacks is p soon). if ur not in one already, join one technology club, one hobby club, and attempt to get leadership on one of them. good luck

Find your niche. Look for something you are genuinely interested in and network. Connect with randos on LinkedIn and if they connect back message them. Ask for advice. Worst they do is ignore you but some will respond

Work on a personal project you’re interested in that’s in the area of CS you want to go into. Looks great on resumes and gives you something to talk about.

work on your soft skills too! things like networking, interviewing well and being good to work with are really the only things that will make you stand out in this industry. also, take internships as soon as possible and try to diversify your resume

I had a whole internship freshman year but still switching to pre med lmao. Getting the next opportunity even when you had experience early is hard. And I value job security

Grad school is something you bill back to your current employer! Make them pay for it! I get 50% reimbursement on all the classes I take. Still ain’t cheap, but hoping it helps me step up to being an assistant director.
