Hey so this is something that kinda gets me heated everytime I think about it but I want y’alls honest opinion. I go to a G5 school and I just wanted to know where everyone’s love of a sports “Cinderella” story goes anytime we make a playoff?

i mean i still enjoy the cinderella stories. i think the argument against them is that 12 teams is not enough space for potential cinderellas and they should only include "real contenders"

I think cinderellas also have a harder time being a thing in college football than other sports like basketball and baseball. There’s a level of physicality in football that unfortunately skill can’t make up for and I think it’s most obviously seen in the linemen.

I think 12 is too little regardless. There’s 138 teams in the FBS, a playoff system that allows teams to be ranked in the top 10% of the FBS and still not make the playoffs isn’t sufficient. It should be moved up to at least 16 imo

I agree with y’all’s takes but I still don’t understand the borderline hate we got. Like it just feels really hypocritical to love movies and documentaries of those under dog stories to then turn around and criticize us for just playing well enough to be given a chance.

Oh I was only hating on JMU cause their fans were dicks to us (I’m a UVA fan so you can see why) but I’ve been advocating for the G5 spot for a while. People forget Notre Dame lost to a MAC school the same year they made the natty

Makes sense, I go to Ga southern and we have a real yo-yo relationship with jmu. But i grew up a Georgia fan and I genuinely believe that if UGA didn’t have the basically NFL defense and TCU had prep time like they did for Michigan then TCU would’ve put up a fight and wouldn’t be the straw man for all the talking heads on TV

I think people only like it when they win. That’s when the story has the same shiny allure as Cinderella. Otherwise I think people just view it as a wasted spot

Like the Cinderella story isn’t complete until they win it all, so without the winning it all part, people brush it off. Plus I think people feel bad whenever a potential Cinderella team loses because they’re frustrated the upset didn’t happen
