What is everybody’s thoughts on universities receiving a “transfer fee” for when players leave through the portal. I think its a really cool and interesting idea

We’re still pretending these are “student” athletes, and students can transfer schools whenever they want. That kind of transaction would require a real contract, which could be seen as making the athletes like contract employees, and that makes some big legal problems.

why should the university pay because a player wants to leave?

I mean look at a sport like soccer. Even if a player wants to leave they leave on a transfer fee. Could be interesting to see it implemented plus it gives a lot of money to smaller schools. Like UNT is getting nothing from everybody leaving, they should be compensated for it imo.
