Hot take: With the rules as they stand, there is no excuse for a Power 4 team, especially a state flagship, to not be a contender sometime in the next 15 seasons. A handful of rich alumni, a committed college admin, and a solid coach are all you need.

Tbh This should apply to any school with actual resources. But if any school wants to be called the flagship they need to be contenders more often than any other school in their state

I don’t disagree. Most power 4 schools already have the alumni though, and the other two are largely a function of resources, which those alumni provide.

I go to Cal and we FINALLY got a chancellor who gaf about football after 10??? 10 years. And we just had to fire our coach a year before his contract was set to expire which was expensive as hell. Despite the Bay Area definitely having rich cal alumni… it took years and years to get here

Mind you this is the school that fumbled Mendoza 😭 I really hope next year will be the turning point for this sad 6-6 program but I won’t even be here to see it that’s how long this rebuild took

I think the problem for Cal might be having upper administration that cares about football and the number of alumni donors that want to donate to football

I seriously do wish we become a contender within the next 15 seasons I’ve just watched too many shitty Cal fumbles to have hope anymore 😭😭😭😭

Basically, what I’m saying in the post is there is no excuse for a Power 4 team to not be a contender in this era, unless the don’t want it. Based on what you’re saying it seems like Cal didn’t necessarily want it 🤷‍♂️

I completely sympathize. I think there’s a fairly clear blueprint Indiana has laid out that is entirely possible (and maybe easier to achieve in the ACC) for Cal. Hopefully hiring Tosh was the signal that they’re finally ready to make that leap.

I mean, why not? If Indiana can get this done surely Boston College can

IU has three times as many students. They’re definitely investing more into sports. But more concerningly, it is only possible for BC to go undefeated if a new world war occurs, as it did in 1940
