Absolute Facts. There is literally no point in a conference if you aren’t going to play every team in the conference every year. Notre Dame has played UGA 2 more times than A&M has since they joined the SEC. They might as well be in different conferences.

You’re correct. We need to return to smaller, regional conferences

There used to be the SEC east and west divisions, I'm not sure why they merged those, maybe for variety I suppose

I made this comment on the OG post, but I figured I’d post it here With 16-18 team conferences, it’s impossible to have everyone play each other, and to properly crown a conference title, another facet of college football ruined by greed, there was no reason to get rid of divisions

Or divisions need to come back

Funny how they got rid of divisions to try and get more balanced conference championship games and it’s done the exact opposite

It was “to get the two best teams” cause usually the west was a lot better. But now it’s impossible to know the 2 best teams when not every team plays each other.

Texas A&M was excluded due to tiebreakers but also hadn’t played any of the tying teams. It seems like the right decision in hindsight, but it’s still bonkers to think about.

Yeah, in my opinion neither the ACC or SEC got the 2 best teams in the conference championship

Hindsight- ole miss. At the time- A&M. But the fact that you can even can argue/have tiebreakers shows how dumb the setup is.

Yes!! Why did we get rid of divisions??

The answer is both. 16+ team conferences will still have a ton of problems even with divisions.
