Oh! I can help you with this one! My roommate is from Louisiana, is a HUGE liberal, and spoke at the White House in September 2024 about civic engagement. She’s kind of a badass and she gave this speech so often I have it practically memorized.

There is no statics showing that people living in the American south are more prone to incest compared to the rest the country.

I don’t need statistics. I have eyes and have lived throughout the south my entire life. There’s a reason rural school districts usually have two last names that make up a third of the student population—and they aren’t reproducing outside of the family.

It is exacerbated by southern culture, hillbilly isolationism, and patriarchal/theocratic culture—all of which are obviously more saturated in the American South than anywhere else in the country.
