i dont really care about either them making it but i will say that reasoning makes about as much sense as the reasoning for when notre dame was ahead of bama, because notre dame looked better when they won. at this point we should just go back to computer rankings do the 5 autobids and top 7 with the best sor after that, or whatever metric they used in the early days.
