hot humid climate, poor infrastructure (especially for those of low-income), lack of funding for post-hurricane rebuilding and some of the worst gerrymandering in the us (bc how tf are shreveport AND baton rouge in the same representative district??? racism, duhh)

i live in louisiana and love it here lol. but the cities are really rough for the most part. some are worth visiting but none are worth living in if you can help it imo

Also I think this list might not fully be accurate because cost of living and HDI isnt included. There’s no way Hawaii is the happiest state in the Union.

I did some studying and apparently there was this governor that did a lot of good things like make schools and hospitals but apparently he was super corrupt and got assassinated. But the thing is he was so corrupt that he started the culture of bribery so that’s why the infrastructure is so poor because apparently to build anything in Louisiana you gotta bribe 37 separate bureaucrats.

Income growth and working hours are included in the statistics. I’m a complete interloper when it comes to the region but GA does seem to be slightly better than some other southern states just going off of some numerical statistics

Idk Nebraska and Utah seem surprisingly satisfactory. Also I know Minnesota is primarily a blue state but they also have a fairly strong Republican base, and they are pretty happy also. Keep in mind net happiness also includes stuff like quality of living and things like infrastructure etc etc. (also Hawaii is a blue state but I highly doubt they are the happiest state in the Union)
