Why do people think that old Miss getting into the playoffs is a good thing for the SEC. It’s just more of a chance for the SEC to cannibalize itself in the playoffs

four teams getting in is better than three. only one team can win anyway. you’d rather have a 4/12 chance or a 3/12 chance?

obviously an sec team will have to cannibalize but you can either have SEC vs. SEC (guaranteed SEC to advance) or SEC vs. another conference (not guaranteed)

But not all teams have the same chance the teams they get a buy are more likely to win Ole Miss is not getting a buy and most likely would end up having to go against an SEC team so if your goal is to maximize the amount of SEC teams making them fight each other in the playoff is not a good idea

right…but right now, ole miss is slated to play alabama. that’s an automatic move for an sec team to move on to semi finals, bye or not. if a different, non-sec school got in, alabama might lose and boom that’s one less SEC team moving on.

If we assume that all games are 50-50 for the sake of simplicity. The bottom eight teams only have a 12.5% chance of making it to the actual championship versus the teams in if I having 25% So it’d be better to have more SEC teams in the top four but that’s almost impossible given the power four

yes so the more teams you start with, the better chance an sec team stays in til the final four, and therefore, could win a championship. if two SEC teams battle in bottom 8, that’s a 100% chance an SEC team advances. if two SEC teams battle in semis, that’s ANOTHER 100% chance SEC moves on to top four. ideally, sec would win every game against non-SEC teams, but even if top 4 was all SEC, they’re gonna have to eventually battle because only one can win. might as well start as many as possible
