Thoughts on Texas tech this year in a rather favorable big12?

It’s hard for me to say anything other than that the investment Tech made in the portal will be very telling as to whether or not such strategies will work out for any team in the Big XII. If it works out, then it will result in Tech making the title game at bare minimum. Worst case scenario? a complete collapse. The games that Tech needs to watch out for are KU (big maybe), ASU, K-State, and BYU, as these teams are the ones I see as the most likely to exploit Techs historically weaker defense.

I agree the road games will become a test (KSU and ASU). However, new dc, complete rehaul on the defensive end (I’d estimate 8 new starters for the next season) it’s hard for me to look away from that and say we aren’t sure about how the defense will improve when they got a loaded roster as such (even if they just have at least a top 50 defense the team will drastically improve off last year) the biggest thing is how buying a team will work I totally agree, a lot of these guys are coming in

For just a year. Being able to mesh a team chemistry wise and being on the same page as been a strength in Joey McGuire short head coaching tenure at the collegiate level. In an easy big12 it shouldn’t pose a problem for them. But we saw what happened to Texas A&M in 2022, ole miss last year (they did finish 10-3 but had huge cfp aspirations, imo flopped on expectations a little bit). It will be a interesting season for Texas tech as the spotlight on them has never been bigger til now

Do I think they will do great? Yes. Do I think they can make a push for a cfp when looking at their roster on paper? Yes. Will they live up to expectations? Probably not. It’s been a big fault in Texas tech football, they will get randomly high expectations and will flopped massively. This year I will say is different, but whether they can live up to it or not will be on the horizon ahead of the 2025 CFB Season
