Maryland has no Big East history, if we’re going to move them, it should be to the ACC, where all their history and rivalries are. I’d love to get Duke/UMD and UMD/UVA back.

If we're talking ideal then I feel like conferences with 12 in the name should have 12 teams

and penn state

There’s a couple reasons I did that: 1. Big 10 is a far better fit than the SEC. Immediate rivalry potential with Iowa and Illinois 2. They would improve competitive balance between east and west Big 10 teams 3. Them or Iowa State are the most geographically removed from the rest of the Big 12, but Iowa State has better preserved rivalries in the Big 12 4. Their best rivalry game with Kansas can be preserved as a protected non-conference game like Georgia-Georgia Tech

Nebraska has far more history with the Big 12/Big 8, and a non-conference rivalry can be preserved between them and at least one Big 10 team. Northwestern I understand but their cultural fit in the Big 10 isn’t great and they also hamper competitive balance. Pennsylvania is not the Midwest and I think Penn State is a better fit with northeastern teams.

In all fairness those conferences were formerly the PAC-10 and Big 8 🤷‍♂️

but missouri has a historic rivalry with kansas, oklahoma, nebraska and iowa state. they are literally named after a pro slavery militia that fought in the civil war, they would not be a good fit in the big 10

Not much anyone can do with so few conferences I suppose. Also a conference that's half made up of schools from Texas seems hilarious, maybe throw in UNT and Rice just for fun.

penn state is more of a big east school than a big 10, nebraska is a big 12 school through and through they killed their program pretending they weren’t one

PA is considered a NE state but the culture of the state is really split into 2 depending on where you are. Like Philly is def a NE city but Pittsburgh feels way more like a Midwestern city than a NE one. Culturally State College, PA fits in more with Midwest than NE.

Columbia, Missouri is fundamentally culturally midwestern, and someone had to go from the Big 12 to make the conferences even. Like I said the rivalry with Kansas could still be preserved annually, but unfortunately all those other rivalry games haven’t been regularly played since Missouri joined the SEC. I know this isn’t an absolute slam dunk, but it’s a better fit that the SEC

Penn State fandom skews eastward and central and eastern Pennsylvania aren’t nearly as close to the Midwest culturally as Pittsburgh.

My Big 12 South is all Texas teams. It’s basically one division is the old SWC and the other is the Big 8.

Big 10 as explained above. Is Iowa State a better fit for the Big 10?

Maryland has rivalry games against Penn State, Rutgers, and West Virginia. Big East is a solid regional fit and Maryland/Virginia can be an annual non-conference

The Rutgers rivalry is pretty newly forced so the B1G can justify adding both of them, but Maryland has tons of history with UVA, Duke, NC State, UNC, and so on. They could play a couple games with history in Penn State and WVU, or have every game meaningful in the ACC. (Plus Penn State and WVU could be OOC.)

iowa state is a farm school the big 12 is perfect for them it should be original big 8 in one division and original southwest in the other

According to the data it seems Maryland fans chose Rutgers, Penn State, and West Virginia over UNC, Duke, or NC State
