Ol’ Kirk at Iowa still blows my mind. Just the fact that that to me it says Iowa fans are ok with 8 win seasons and a mediocre bowl every year. They haven’t even been whispered in the conversation of a championship in I don’t know how long. Every 5 years or so they have 10+ wins, and they think they’ll gain momentum but they never do.

Just because it bothered me, I don’t know why, I looked it up. Last time I found the Hawkeyes at #2 was 2021, but then lost to Purdue of all teams and their season ranked afterwards. I’d consider that ranking a fluke. Before that, it was 1958.

They ended the season 10-4 and unranked. So, I guess #2 was kind of a generous ranking when they had it. I feel like my point still stands as far as their mediocrity and failure to do anything more than get a weak bowl game every year… and they lost their bowl game in 2021 to Kentucky.
