also too, saban has also semi-successfully coached in the nfl (4 years as browns DC leading them to an nfl-best defense in his final year before returning to college), and 9-7 in a single year at miami. not eye popping, but objectively more impressive than anything a current fbs coach can say they’ve achieved due to it being professional football.
decent argument. cig has been head coaching college for 15 years and has 5 conference titles (1 d2, 3 fcs, 1 fbs) to his belt. by year 15 in college, saban had 4 (1 mac, 3 sec), and a bcs national title. also, cignetti was an alabama WR coach in 07 and 08, the years you’re poking fun of.
i don’t know how else to say this, but a college coach is supposed to field a talented team, because it’s up to them to develop those players. i’m not gonna listen to the argument that developing players makes your results invalid. saban didn’t spend off seasons recruiting 15+ developed players from other fbs programs to produce for the next season, as you can in the modern day.
