but tbh should playoff spots be given to teams that “deserve” it or teams that are good… because you could argue a&m DESERVES it more because of their record but Texas is clearly the better team because of their stronger wins and their head to head (and i know texas would never replace a&m in playoffs it’s just an example)

A few good wins shows you have high potential but low consistency, while a season of winning shows you're consistently good, even if your ceiling is lower. If you want to guarantee good games in the playoffs you need teams with high skill floors more than teams with high skill ceilings, so teams that lose to Florida are less valuable.
