He is really liked because he was able to keep JMU competing at an even higher level after Cignetti left and took all their best players to Indiana. Chesney also got JMU their first Sun Belt title and first FBS playoff appearance. True, even after Cignetti took their best players there was still a winning culture already instilled but what Chesney did is still very impressive.

I’m not saying Chesney is a bad coach, I’m saying he won’t have at UCLA what Cignetti had at Indiana to get them that far
