I mean there is just a clear inferiority complex here

The awards that are just known to be 100% indicative of what the best conference is, of course

What about their 16 hypothetical heisman winning QBs

Also, 3 of the SEC’s awards are kicker, punter, and community service

Pretty indicative of who the most talented players are

Right, because the big 12 and the MW had the best players last year, right? Take a look at the recruiting rankings the past 5 years, ik you won’t because it’ll hurt your feelings but just look at them

Recruiting doesn’t mean as much as developing

I want you to look at the last 10 national champions, then I want you to go look at the recruiting rankings for the 4 years previous to that team winning a title.

Still tells me exactly what I said. Development means a lot more than recruiting. Ohio State recruited Quin Ewers, he didn’t stay. Georgia recruited Justin Fields, he didn’t stay. Alabama was in the top 4 the last 5 years, didn’t make the playoffs last year, barely did this year, and haven’t won a title in 5 years.

Did you find a single team that won a national title outside the top ten? What conference has the most teams inside the top ten every year? Case in point.

Big 10 fans love clamoring about winning 2 natties (one they had to cheat for and still almost lost to the worst Bama team Saban had since 07) yet forget about the ten years they went without winning one, it’s absolutely hilarious

Actually yes, Michigan - but I’m sure we’d both agree that they cheated. I did see plenty of top 10 teams that didn’t even make the playoffs. Why? Because recruiting doesn’t mean as much unless you can coach and develop them. Without development, they stay at a high school level their whole college career.

They finished top ten in the three 3 years previous to winning a natty, besides 2023, when most of those guys aren’t playing anyway because they would’ve been freshmen that year

Ah well I’ve always used on 3 and tbf they’re top ten not in 2021 tho but like you said there’s something to be said about the time a team not in top 10 recruiting winning it had cheating allegations

So you would think that like draft picks and success in the NFL marks a good team right…

I still stand by my point and I’m sure I won’t convince you but the last thing I’ll say is what do Baker Mayfield, Troy Smith, and Johnny Manziel all have in common? Answer: they were all 3-star recruits that were developed into Heismans. Mahomes was a 3-star. Brady was a 3-star. Lamar Jackson was a 3-star. Stars are their high school talent level, not their career-long talent level. They don’t become Heismans and Hall of Famers without development.

I’m not saying that it CANT happen, I’m just saying typically the recruiting rankings are a very good indicator of who has the most actual talent 95% of the time
