Ever since ESPN pivoted their coverage of the ACC and B12 when their SEC deal kicked in. It already happened to the Big East a decade ago too.

I think people do realize that, but they do still control who gets airtime and consideration

Then you need to blame espn, and not the teams themselves. However it is understandable that some (but not all) SEC fans can be insufferable.
