yes and no, like if you're truly excelling and about to graduate early but dont want to graduate then just pick up a minor haha! i definitely dont want to discourage graduation but i do think there should be a stricter four year eligibility cutoff (none of this suing the ncaa nonesense that we're seeing rn😭)
I’d agree with you in the sense that we shouldn’t encourage people just getting masters because they have to for eligibility reasons, but like the other commenter said we definitely shouldn’t punish players for pursuing post-graduate education. It’s not fair to force redshirted athletes to basically pause their education for eligibility reasons, just as it’s not fair to punish those on an accelerated track
i definitely agree in the sense of like a player graduating undergrad in three years and uses a fourth to begin their masters! there's just a lot of odd situations going around rn like the player at bama who returned from the nba (or carson beck "i graduated two years ago" in football) which is moreso why i said undergrad students because that typically limits you to the four years. eligibility right now is a sticky situation for sure!
The NBA players returning is a especially insane issue. The NCAA needs to put their foot down, especially because they’ll have too eventually when it comes to foreign semi-pro players. I imagine that a majority of players who play past 4 years end up pursuing a second bachelors or just kind of take random courses, which in that I agree that is somewhat ridiculous. We probably aren’t ever going to have to see 7th year seniors again, but 6th and especially 5th years will always be around.
