was just told that gaining disability would take 2+ years, at least one court visit, and at least $10000 in lawyer fees… because apparently america does not believe you can be under 50 and be disabled what the literal fck
Most disability lawyers work for free and you don’t have to pay them unless you win, but I guess it depends on whether they want to take your case.

As for the time frame, yeah, it’s gonna take a while. I think I initially applied in early 2023 and I just got the call that I was finally approved today (yippee!!!). Took several appeals, pretty much everyone gets denied the first time.

As for the court visit, you can choose to do that over the phone. I did and it was still very stressful but luckily my lawyer did most of the talking and the judge was pretty cool.

But that’s paid for with your back pay/or by SSA. You won’t have to pay out of your own pocket. Or at least that’s how most lawyers do it.
