Holy fuck. At least it’s down $111k??? That’s still a big expense though, I’m sorry you are going through this.

Yeah I’m glad the surgery is actually being covered bc my insurance doesn’t like to cover things. I think the balance I have to pay is my deductible for the year

The surgery doesn’t happen until April. I honestly think the price is fairly accurate since it’s surgery on my spinal cord with a minimum of 48 hours on inpatient bed rest after and then physical therapy to be cleared to go home

I’ve been admitted for an emergency reason since Tuesday that included surgery and I just know this bill is gonna be ridiculous🥲

That’s the kind of logic insurance uses to make you not care about the fact they’re still charging you 3K.

I thought it was obvious that I’m not saying “Yay, you only have to pay $3K!” Our healthcare system is fucked and I wish it weren’t like this, but seeing as it IS, at the bare minimum, I am happy that OP’s charge it not completely life-ending like it could have been.

Oh yeah, I got that. Without insurance we’d be fucked. And it is good news. But insurance has such a way of softening a 3K bill, by first showing you what you could’ve paid if you didn’t have them. Like, “We saved you from a 6 figure payment, now give us two months of rent.” It’s just so stupid.

Yeah, It’s really awful. Insurance is so greedy. Not to mention how hard it is to get them to approve life saving medication. It’s like… I wouldn’t be on this for fun, I’m trying to prevent organ failure but thanks, I’ll just wait for another three months while you debate about paying for it
