“Oh, we see/do this x times every single day, it’s not embarrassing or a big deal” it is to me! Idk why all patient dignity goes out the window just because you, the doctor, are comfortable with what you’re doing or ordering!

No literally!!!! The amount of processing I needed to do with my therapist before getting a colonoscopy from a male gastroenterologist while I was under anesthesia as a 22 year old female 😭

For real, like I understand that they do it all the time and they’re going to be professional about it, but tell that to my god damn monkey brain that’s still stuck on the fact that a strange person (in an authority position) is going to be digging around in my bits with freaky ass tools while I’m knocked out

I just don’t know why medical professionals act like fear and anxiety has to be rational to be valid. Irrational fears are still fears. Is it realistic to be scared of having to get a pelvic exam any time I walk in to a medical building, even if I’m just there to get a shot or blood work? Hell no. I’d rather not have that fear either. But that doesn’t make it magically go away
